i would never admit having their album; i even hid it when i bought it at machida for yen200(it’s a used cd shop). during their hey days i was elbow deep into grunge and punk rock having been honed at the old mapua institute of technology. when i say the old mapua, i mean the torn jeans, chucks/flip-flop (spartan, not havainas), greasy hair type. think alamid, the dawn, eraserheads, rivermaya-esque songs. i think not even a single soul knows i own this album, but dahon does tease me of owning one.

so why admit now? well they have great songs, makes you feel giddy and jiggy, makes you wanna sing along but not burst into song and dance like hairspray. and walking along espana to the nearest mcdo, ipod on shuffle, i heard the song, and brought back memories and faint smile.

i have a renewed love with lisa stansfield. i grew up listening to her during my high school and early college days before the sudden shift in music trend to grunge. i like the tone in her voice and her brand of music; reminds me of a warm, lazy sunday morning, with of steaming hot coffee and  croissant with cream cheese. i like music that i can sing with, breezy and cool and totally takes me to another place. i would classify her music as the type i would play on a long drive or by the beach with a good book.

i first got hooked with her after listening to the affection album, all around the world. i don’t know why but until now i love this song. the beat is just perfect and easy on the ears, it doesn’t lull me to sleep but doesn’t make me jump around and start shaking my ass. the lyrics is just as inspiring as she sings it with a hint of jazz. but my favorite of all her album that i have (i have her first 4) is the lisa stansfield. her music has matured and she just glow. my favorite cuts in this album are never, never gonna give you up and real thing. may sound cheesy but i like how the songs talk about love and and not letting it go. though most of her sound is about love, but these 2 combined with infectious melody and good lyrics stood out.

i miss the old times when they release 4-8 singles per album as oppose to today’s 3 singles per album.

it has been a laughing matter, a staple answer in beauty pageants, world peace. but yet world peace is not something to joke about. so many lives have been sacrificed, blood spilled all in effort to have a better place to live in. quite ironic actually, with the casualties, damages, the pain and suffering. the war in the middle east, the battle in the mindanao, the endless fights all in the name of peace.

it’s sad but that’s reality. the bright side of it is, reality doesn’t have to be. we are in a position to affect and effect changes. it might sound bull straight up from some inspirational shit head selling positivity, but it’s the truth. i really believe that everyone can do it. our collective small contributions to peace will pave way to having a world were conflict is a thing of the past. if we open our hearts and listen, if we take time to hear each other, there would be no war, no famine, no conflicts…
