nostalgia

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

i would never admit having their album; i even hid it when i bought it at machida for yen200(it’s a used cd shop). during their hey days i was elbow deep into grunge and punk rock having been honed at the old mapua institute of technology. when i say the old mapua, i mean the torn jeans, chucks/flip-flop (spartan, not havainas), greasy hair type. think alamid, the dawn, eraserheads, rivermaya-esque songs. i think not even a single soul knows i own this album, but dahon does tease me of owning one.

so why admit now? well they have great songs, makes you feel giddy and jiggy, makes you wanna sing along but not burst into song and dance like hairspray. and walking along espana to the nearest mcdo, ipod on shuffle, i heard the song, and brought back memories and faint smile.

i hope this puts a smile on your face. :-) [download here]

life ain’t bad

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best…

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

For life is quite absurd
And death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin – give the audience a grin
Enjoy it – it’s your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show
Keep ‘em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the right side of life…
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the bright side of life…
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life…
(I mean – what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing – you’re going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life…

according to kate monster… [download here]

I’m kinda pretty
And pretty damn smart.
I like romantic things
Like music and art.
And as you know
I have a gigantic heart
So why don’t I have
A boyfriend?
Fuck!
It sucks to be me!

It sucks to be me.
It sucks to be Brian…
And Kate…
To not have a job!
To not have a date!

digital sound

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

last weekend amidst the torrential rain/storm, i sat in front of my laptop and decided to to a late spring cleaning of my own. i forced myself to go over 5,000+ of mp3s, sort them, put album cover, create playlist and burn my other cds to mp3. it’s a tiring process, specially the opms that i just can’t do a right click ยป download album cover on using itunes. i need to do a manual search on google images for most of the album covers, specially the indie and world genre. my guess is that itunes only have an image database of popular music.

i have almost have all genre of music excluding 1, the heavy metal. i have classical, indie, pop, r&b, world, grunge, jazz, pop, acid, and other kinds of music but i can’t really stand heavy metal music. the closest i have is the soundtrack of queen of the damned. i can’t stand shouting and squealing guitars mimicking the violin’s range.

i realized i’ve amassed so much house/trance/techno/chillout music through the years, like 35 cds worth. mostly dj tiesto, hed kandi and paul van dyk. i don’t listen to them that much except for the chillout and lounge when i want to just hang out in my room and lay flat on my bed. the oldest artist i have in my  songbook is ella fitzgerald and judy garland. i love the old sound, the jazz throwback, soulful voices. though i appreciate contemporary jazz of harry connick jr., julia fordham and diana krall but nothing beats the oldies, the brat pack era. but what i am most proud of is my collection of broadway and kantahanl soundtracks, specially rodger and hammerstein’s south pacific and  a chorus line, original cast of course!

it took me the whole 2 days to somewhat get my itunes and ipod organized. i’m having difficulty with the genre and duplicate songs; soundtracks and compilations are hell and creates duplicates of songs. hopefully next generation of itunes will allow users to assign a song to multiple albums.

listening to:
A Chorus Line : Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love

friday generosity

Friday, June 13th, 2008

it’s friday the 13th and i’m feeling generous. having finished seasons 3 and 4 of will and grace in dvd, i heeded to jack’s advice, gay it forward.

so here’s the quintesential gay icon, barbra streisand, with her essentials collection.

Disk 1

Disk 2

can you get any gayer than barbra? abangan!

p.s. after checking the layout of this entry in my site, it suddenly dawned on me that my links on the random thoughts section are all practicing alternative lifestyles. though i didn’t setup my link category that way, it came out like so. life has a funny way of organizing. :-)
