tales of rocky
i always come home late, around 12midnight from work since i have been working with the global team and needs overlapping hours for meetings. and it has been a routine for me to go out and buy from this incredulously, run of the mill barbecue stall that sells the most amazing assorted barbecue. coming home tonight, i go about my usual stuff that includes checking up new mails, synching my phone for tomorrow’s meetings and playing with rocky. around 12.30am i went to the barbecue place for an evening snack-2 sticks of barbecue, 2 sticks of tenga ng baboy and 2 sticks of isaw ng baboy. half of those is for rocky who happens to wait for me for this daily snack routine before taking his vitamins. while waiting, 2 balut vendors one not older than 12 and the other around late teens cut in front of me and started to choose their order. i felt a little uneasy seeing a child, barely a teen, selling balut in the middle of the night. it hit me how life can be so hard specially to this child who should be in bed now and worrying about his studies. 2-3 minutes after, they picked out a stick of barbecue, to share. here i am, buying 6 sticks of barbecue, 3 for my pampered dog who have a special diet, vitamins, grooming appointments and vet checkups i wouldn’t dare miss.
going home, guilt enveloped my body as i enjoy the comforts of life while a good number of people are challenged to even get by each day. as i enter my apartment, rocky greeted me with a wide grin and a wagging tail. he knows i have his favorite treat with me. i set barbecue down and carefully remove the meat from the skewer, dipped it in his favorite dipping sauce and feed him using my free hand. 6 sticks of barbecue after, rocky is ready for his vitamins. as i tidy up the daybed and proceeded to get his vitamins, he jumped into daybed and started munching on my sennheiser headset. and this isn’t the first time, this is the 2nd pair of sennheiser he dismembered not to mention my white gucci sunglasses, a pair of prada shoes and dolce and gabbana and my paul smith sports coat.
i honestly have thoughts of giving up rocky, with all the adjustments i have to do, vet appointments and his expensive upkeeps not to mention all my stuff he destroyed. but like what a friend said, it easier to give up. i feel frustrated that i need to take care of rocky and all i get is broken headsets and torn shoes. maybe this is the universe telling me i am not ready for a child.
