highway robbery
returning to your regular programming…
a friend invited me to dinner at circles in shangrila makati. i was a bit early so i decided to roam around glorietta then to rustan’s. it has been a long time since i visited this mall that they have renovated and moved familiar store brands without me ever knowing. there’s a new banana republic for men at rustan’s across what used to be the space of ck which has moved a floor above. i browsed at the store’s offerings and what caught my attention was a travel suit bag. i need one so my formal suit wouldn’t be crinkled when traveling. so here’s a nylon banana rep travel suit bag with leather trims and handles, and it cost php11,000.00. i can’t imagine why an off season item priced more than its original? i mean, come on! these are left overs from last season gathering dust in some warehouse, bought in bulk, shipped, dusted and displayed in a brand new, yellow light display window. and voila! 150% markup! talk about greed. though i’m still interested in the suit bag. i’ll just buy it online, marked down of course and have it shipped to my mom’s address in florida.
after my dismay, i marched towards shangrila hotel to circles. dinner was good, it’s not fabulous. the japanese courses are few and the cold prawns are bland as always. among the indian courses, only the prawn tandoori was close enough to how indian food should taste. i don’t know how bugsy talked me into having dinner here since i never enjoyed eating here. however the dessert, though very select was really good. the chocolate pudding was moist and warm with a heavy serving of dark chocolate which i really love. it’s not sweet at all nor too bitter. the homemade ube ice cream was splendid and consistently creamy with a little chunks of purple yam. so is the dalandan sherbet which is so refreshing and cleanse the taste palette quite effectively. i was pleasantly surprised that the chocolate fondue was made from dark belgian chocolate and not your usual milk chocolate. the buffet costs php1,500.00 plus tax and service charge, but what really irked me is the fact that the glass of ice tea costs php200.00++. honestly, this is the most expensive ice tea i have ever had, and i thought the ice tea at figaro was expensive.

in fairness, brewed ice tea. would have appreciated it more if they gave me honey instead of light syrup.
